EXCLUSIVE: Interview With Jason Trost

We got to interview the director of Vacation 8 and also Lucas’ friend, Jason Trost. I apologize for not posting this earlier but here it is. Enjoy!

Hi Jason! How are you?
- I’m good, just super busy with a bunch of projects.

So your an actor, producer, writer, and a director. Out of those three, which of them are your favorite?
- That’s a very hard decision, because I love them all. But if I had to choose I’d say Acting, because I love being able to be someone else… But I also love writing/creating… It’s such a hard call because they all go so hand and hand with me in my creative process.

Who’s your role model?
- For directing I’d have to say James Cameron. For acting I’d say Kurt Russel.

Lucas Till: Battle Los Angeles ‘Scared Me a Little Bit’

Lucas Till leans back against a stucco wall in this new spread from the March 2011 issue of DaMan magazine.

The 20-year-old merging action star talks to the mag about being into brunettes, becoming a super hero and his character in Battle: Los Angeles. Check it:

On landing the role of Corporal Grayston: “I did a pre-reading for an audition and I got a call-back. All of us were reading for one specific character and then they would divide us off afterward depending on what character we fit the most. I got the call back and met the director, Jonathan Liebesman and I remember after doing a scene for him I was panting heavily and getting a little lightheaded and I said, ‘well that was intense.’ He said, ‘well get ready for six months of that,’ or something like that. It scared me a little bit, but then I ended up getting a different role.”

On finally playing a superhero: “I just did X-Men. I’ve always dreamed of being a superhero and I actually got to play one. I’m pretty much finished. I play Alex Summers whose mutant name is Havok and has the ability to absorb cosmic energy and shoot plasma beams. He is the brother of Scott Summers, or Cyclops, which everyone would know even if you’re not a comic book fan from the previous movies.”

On being a brunette type of guy: “Intelligence is important for me, but it doesn’t hurt if she looks really good. It’s really just more like a case-by-case basis. I might like her and I can’t really figure out why, I just do. But, I like brunettes, that’s for sure.”

Lucas Till Briefly On ‘Havok’ In X-Men: First Class!

In a brief quote from the latest issue of VMAN Magazine, young actor Lucas Till, whose portraying Alex Summers aka Havok in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class prequel, speaks on the process and look for the role.

“The day after I arrived on location to shoot Battle: Los Angeles, I started a three-week boot camp. The first week consisted of getting my body physically and mentally ready for everything the marines would be doing in the weeks to come.

For X-Men: First Class, my routine is a lot different. Portraying Alex Summers, I want to look as athletic as his character is in the comics. My trainer, Ed Chow, is one of the nicest people on the face of the earth, which is deceiving, because he is damn good at what he does.”

Matthew Vaughn and Lucas Till on X-Men: First Class

I’M not the only one to remark on the curious fact we are just recently seeing images from two superhero movies – X-Men: First Class and the untitled Spider-Man reboot (don’t call it Spider-Man 4, Sony has told us, cos it isn’t).

What’s strange about these two sets of pictures appearing simultaneously is that one film (First Class) comes out on June 2 while the other isn’t out until more than a year later, in July 2012.

Clearly, the X-Men project – which still appears to be filming – has to move fast to meet that release date in four months’ time. Not to mention offering us a trailer or two.

Director Matthew Vaughn admits the pressure is on, but he seems confident of succeeding. And he also hints at sequels, which will be a relief for those devotees (me included) who want to see the younger versions of Cyclops, Jean and Storm eventually enter this new origin franchise.

Lucas Till: The Next Action Star

For roles in action flicks like Battle: Los Angeles and the upcoming X-Men spin off, X-Men: First Class, Lucas Till had to bulk up. Big time. For his part as a marine in Battle, what better way than to actually endure a military boot camp? And to become a superhero? Well, that’s just about adhering to a brutal fitness regime. So we had Till keep a journal for us during his arduous early mornings and sore-body nights.

The day after I arrived on location to shoot Battle: Los Angeles, I started a three-week boot camp. The first week consisted of getting my body physically and mentally ready for everything the marines would be doing in the weeks to come. There was a group of us portraying marines in the film, and we began by assembling our living quarters for the duration of boot camp. In the mornings, we would wake up for physical training. This would consist of push-ups, crunches, sit-ups—exercises based on your own body weight. But the challenging part was the competition between some of us coupled with the fact that any sort of failure or insubordination would result in double the amount of repetition—and not just for that person, but everyone. Afterwards, we would run several miles. And this all took place at five-thirty in the morning.
